SCPS™ - SMEI CERTIFIED PROFESSIONAL SALESPERSON™

1. Introduction

The SMEI Certified Professional Salesperson™ - SCPS™ program is ideal sales certification for students, for professionals who are employed as a sales representatives, account managers, distributor representatives and business development personnel. The Certified Professional Salesperson program will award the coveted "SCPS" designation which the certified professional can place on their business cards and stationery. This designation is a great door-opener and conversa- tion starter during prospecting or sales calls. Effective use of the designation on stationary, email signatures and websites is a great way to let your employer, customers, prospects and peers know that you are a true professional and that your business activities are guided by a signed sales & marketing Code of Ethics. The SMEI sales certification program is designed to ensure that those completing the program have successfully demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the core competencies outlined below.

Recognized authorities in sales and marketing were involved in prescribing these competencies, which were in turn approved and adopted by the Certified Marketing & Sales Professionals (CMSP) Trustees.

This course provides applicants with a view of the principle areas of sales under the theme "Partnering to Create Value". It explores the factors influencing how buying decisions are made, including the impact of buying decisions on an organization. Applicants gain a working knowledge of practical sales and business vocabulary. In today's competitive market a "partnering style of selling" creates a competitive advantage for sales organizations that transcends to increased customer value. This course is ideally suited for those wishing to achieve high performance.

  • Understand relationship selling opportunities in the information economy
  • Know the importance of discovering customer needs and configuring value-added product solutions to meet those needs
  • Explain how the marketing concept has produced the new personal selling models and strategies used by high-performing salespeople
  • Develop your own personal selling philosophy and a professional commumication style 
  • Develop a product strategy that adds value
  • Develop a customer strategy through understanding the buying process and buyer behavior
  • Develop a sales presentation strategy using adaptive selling and consultant question techniques  
  • Negotiate buyer concerns
  • Learn key concepts for the management of self and others
